Hilde Performance Center

Superior Acoustics for the Hilde Community Performance Center in Plymouth, MN

The creation of a visually pleasing exterior performance space that augments the landscape while providing a superior acoustical environment drove the design of the Hilde Performance Center. The center, which houses a performance by the Minnesota Orchestra every year, includes several innovative design features to provide a beautiful and functional building. Pivoting wall panel segments on either side of the stage allow performances to be “tuned,” reducing overbearing instrument sounds and strengthening singers’ voices. Special acoustical panels in the ceiling disperse sound evenly to allow for the dramatic, curved form of the roof. Additionally, great care was taken to situate the building in a natural, bowled seating area. The transparency of the back wall ties the audience and performers to the natural environment.
