Dakota County Galaxie Library

Library Design Improves Materials Handling Systems and Provides Makers and Learning Spaces

Dakota County Galaxie Library had opened in Apple Valley in 1990 and was due for a complete interior renovation. BTR worked with stakeholders at Dakota County to address present and future program needs to inform the work. The renovated library features new and unique spaces in order to reinforce its purpose as a versatile and resilient community asset. The prominent iLab serves as a maker space and resource to provide the public with new technologies and instructional opportunities. Updated staff areas with automated materials handling increases the efficiency and care of processing materials. The design of various library zones such as an expanded children’s area, teen area, study spaces, and an expanded community room were centered on updated finishes, flexible use, and focused on current and future trends and needs.
